The Junior Zookeeper program began in 2007 as a day camp designed to introduce local children to the distinct and diverse species that call Noah's Landing home. More than just a "summer camp," the program has focused on hands-on science education from the start, combining classes, crafts, and games with opportunities to "volunteer" at the nature center. (Learn more about our curriculum.)
In 2012, we will offer the following day camp programs. Click each header for more details.
Junior Explorer Camp: June 18 and June 25 (Ages 6-8)
We know that long days and detailed classes can be a lot for our youngest campers to
handle. That's why we created the Junior Explorer program, where kids can choose to attend for a full day or just a half day. Junior Explorer camp is designed with our youngest campers in mind. Kids participate in games, hands-on activities, and special animal interaction time.Kids should plan to bring their own bagged lunch but snacks and drinks will be provided throughout the day.
Junior Explorer camp is limited to 18 campers on a first come, first served basis.
Half Days (9 a.m. - 1 p.m.):
$35/day | $150/week
Full Days (9 a.m. - 4 p.m.): $50/day | $200/week
Junior Zookeeper Camp: July 9 and July 16(Ages 9-12)
Our Junior Zookeeper program is specially designed for ages 9-11 and includes daily volunteer time, hands-on science classes, crafts, and games. Each Junior Zookeeper day runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Daily themes include "Veterinary Medicine," "Scales and Tails," and "Invertebrates." During our Vet Med day, for example, kids will hear from a local veterinarian and learn about the basic skills required to treat animals. A day focused on animal diets might include a class in creating zoo "snacks" for animals and an activity digging inside an owl pellet. No matter what the theme, each day is designed to be a mix of crafts, games, and learning activities. ($50/day or $200/week)
Zoo Teens: July 30 (Ages 12-14)
Too old for crafts and games? The Zoo Teens program is designed with our oldest campers in mind. This weeklong program will include hands-on classes, dissections, and field trips to local animal care facilities. Throughout the week, campers will be challenged to complete their own zoo project at the farm. ($225/week with an additional $25 charge for the overnight campout)
